Failure investigation for non materials experts

Organiser: Materials and Engineering Research Centre at Sheffield Hallam University
Date: 7th October and 10th November 2017
Venue: Sheffield Hallam University - City Campus, Howard Street,Sheffield, S1 1WB

The trend for small engineering / manufacturing businesses to have no in-house materials expertise reduces their ability to diagnose and respond to, in-process and in-service failures. Such failures can constitute a crisis for a small business, particularly when they occur in-service. Equally, routine and well-informed investigation and solving of failures, particularly during processing and manufacture, is vital to a well-founded quality management system and often signposts the direction for useful innovation that can bring competitive advantage through new techniques / processes / products or by reduction of waste / re-work in an existing process.
