Sheffield Innovation Programme

The Sheffield Innovation Programme enables Sheffield City Region businesses to access academic expertise, facilities and resources to stimulate innovation and support delivery of new products and services. 

Businesses can access a range of bespoke consultancy services with academic experts as well as a programme of events and workshops to help their business grow. 

Expertise available includes:

 • Materials and Engineering
• Product and Packaging Design 
• Sports Engineering and Exercise
• Food Engineering and Food Science
• User-centred Software Design

Sheffield Innovation Programme runs until July 2019. The project is a joint initiative between Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Sheffield’s Faculty of Engineering, and is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

Sheffield Hallam University

A partnership with Sheffield Hallam University can deliver real benefits that impact on the bottom line. The University of Sheffield’s Engineering Gateway 

The University of Sheffield’s Engineering Gateway is a faculty-wide initiative aimed at applying existing departmental knowledge transfer expertise to companies across the engineering sector as a whole. The overall aim is to form long-term partnerships with companies, supporting their needs both for the recruitment of good students and easy access to all areas of our research and innovation activity.

Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre

The University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) with Boeing is a world-class centre for advanced machining and materials research for aerospace and other high-value manufacturing sectors. This world-class facility is dedicated to developing the new, technology-driven solutions for materials-forming, metal-working, and castings that help ensure UK manufacturing remains competitive in the world. The AMRC is located on the Advanced Manufacturing Park.

The Materials and Engineering Research Institute (MERI) at Sheffield Hallam University is a dynamic interdisciplinary research institute dedicated to addressing industrial problems through the application of fundamental science and engineering. National Centre of Excellence for Food Engineering

The National Centre of Excellence for Food Engineering, supported by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), is a hub for collaboration within the food industry. Its aim is to help the industry realise its ambitious visions for growth and address the key challenges it faces by developing innovative engineering solutions and supporting the development of critical skills.

Advanced Manufacturing Park

The Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) is a world-class manufacturing technology park providing advanced manufacturing technology solutions to ensure repetitive advantage for industry. Technologies on the AMP centre on materials and structures, covering metallic and composite materials; typically used in precision industries including; aerospace, automotive, medical devices, sport, environmental and energy, oil and gas, defence and construction.

Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre

The Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre is at the heart of the UK civil nuclear manufacturing industry. Combining industry expertise and university innovation, the Nuclear AMRC works with companies to improve capabilities and performance along the nuclear supply chain.

High Value Manufacturing Catapult

The High Value Manufacturing Catapult is a strategic initiative that aims to revitalise the manufacturing industry.The HVM Catapult’s network consists of seven technology and innovation centres, established and overseen by the Technology Strategy Board, with over £200 million of government investment.  The inception of the Catapult provides UK business with a gateway to access the best manufacturing talent and facilities in the country. They aim to drive the growth of the manufacturing sector by helping companies of all sizes incubate and develop new technologies through to commercial reality.The Advanced Manufacturing Centre and the Nuclear AMRC are both part of the Catapult’s network of centres.

National Metals Technology Centre

The National Metals Technology Centre (NAMTEC) was established to improve the competitiveness and sustainability of the metals and related engineering industries throughout the UK.  A key part of NAMTEC’s role is to facilitate the transfer of technical information and knowledge between industry and academia, to the mutual benefit of both parties. NAMTEC is part of the University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC).

Castings Technology International

Castings Technology International (Cti) is Europe’s leading centre of excellence dedicated to providing independent R&D, technical support and consultancy services to the castings and metal related industry.  As a Research and Technology Organisation (RTO) with 114 technical personnel and an annual budget of £8.9m, the organisation has a worldwide membership of approximately 300 companies in 40 countries, which includes casting producers, their suppliers and castings users. It has a wide range of expertise, facilities and resources geared towards practical development work. The organisation is based on the Advanced Manufacturing Park.

TWI

TWI is one of the world’s foremost independent research and technology organisations, with expertise in solving problems in all aspects of manufacturing, fabrication and whole-life integrity management technologies. It provides research, consultancy and training services in welding and joining, engineering, NDT inspection, materials, surfacing, and lifecycle integrity. The organisation has its Yorkshire centre in Rotherham.

Innovate UK

Innovate UK is the UK’s innovation agency

We work with people, companies and partner organisations to find and drive the science and technology innovations that will grow the UK economy.

If you want to develop an innovative product or service, you may be able to apply for funding of between £25,000 and £10 million.

Innovate UK runs funding competitions which can help you develop your idea and make it successful. These competitions are open for projects led by any UK based companies. Innovate UK awards funding to the winners of these competitions.
